Chronology
1928: Born in Saida to Judge Mohammad Abu al-Fadl al-Kawas and Sadiqa Zantout.
1962: Entered the judiciary after earning a law degree at Universite Saint-Joseph and practicing law for eight years.
1968: Appointed investigating judge in Beirut.
March 22, 1977: Appointed judicial investigator in the Kamal Jumblatt assassination file.
1978-1993: Served as president of Lebanon's murder court.
December 11, 1990: Spoke at a Human Rights in Lebanon seminar in Saida.
1993: Became Court of Cassation counselor and an original Justice Council member.
May 23, 1996: Signed the decision in the Jumblatt assassination file; As-Safir published the text the next day.
2003: Publicly associated with abolitionist arguments against the death penalty and honored by the Cultural Movement in Antelias.
July 2013: Death notices report the passing of Judge Hassan Kawas.
